Well not a good night on the virtual felt after finally logging on to 888 last night to play the tournaments, I busted out of all of them without cashing in a single one. Four tournaments, four blanks. I will concede that it was a mixture of misfortune, my fault and not meant to be so close to cashing in 3 of them but the Poker Gods has other plans on Saturday night.

This weekend I have lost 2% of bankroll in the tournaments I have particapated in, which is why bankroll management is so important as it allows you to deal with the swings and roundabouts the game of poker throws at us.

There is one hand however that left a very bitter taste in my mouth, I had been flying in the $2K Guaranteed and throughout the tournament was never short stacked so it was gutting to bust out of this one in the manner it happened.

Basically I wake up with [card]AS[/card] [card]AD[/card] and all the chips go in pre-flop and the river killed (see below).

7ce62ad08326902690e099646a396f53.jpg?v=256200

Now it could be said that it is one of those things sent to try us and we have to dust ourselves down and remember hands like that don't happen often. But I always like to look at any hand regardless of the strength of the hand when the chips go in and see if I could do anything different. So I will break the hand down and see if there were other avenues to persue which may have made me walk away from the hand without me knowing I had the best hand until the river.

As I said I woke up with [card]AS[/card] [card]AD[/card], the blinds are 300/600 with a 60 ante and I have 19,721 chips (just a shade under 33 Big Blinds).

UTG makes just a little over a minimum raise to 1,290 and the action folds round to me in the Big Blind. So what are my options here, first I have to look at the type of player I'm up against. Now I only played 90 hands against them so not going to gleam much information out of that other than their playing style which is a tight agressive player who is a loose pre-flop raiser and very aggressive post-flop. Even though they are a loose pre-flop raiser I still have to give the pre-flop raise creditability as it is UTG. Hadn't got many instances of this player in 3-Bet situations but does fold 66% to a 3-Bet but again my opponent had raised from UTG so less likely to fold.

As I am guaranteed this hand will be played heads-up and both myself and my opponent are both deepstacked (opponent has 20,530) I could just call for deceptive purposes. I don't like that plan as a lot of players min-raise with usually AA,KK or small to medium pocket pairs especially from UTG in my experience and also by flat calling I'm not really finding out how strong their hand is. So I elect to 3-Bet to 4,800, I am more than happy just to take the hand down now as there is a good chance they will fold the rubbish end of their range from here. Now they fire in a 4-Bet to 8,310, I do give it some serious thought here to flat call. It is definately clear that my opponent has a very strong starting hand and I don't want to go out 9 places shy of the money and I have now put my opponent on Kings as they are unlikely to be 4-Bet me light.

But I know I'm ahead so jam all my chips in to make them pay (maybe a bit greedy). He calls and well you know what happened he spiked the [card]Kd[/card] to river me and take me out of the tournament.

So could I have got away from this hand and avoided the cooler in my opinion, no. If I had flat called the the UTG raise I would have check/raise on the flop as [card]QC[/card] [card]9C[/card] [card]9H[/card] is not a scary board and I doubt my opponent would have been scared by the two nines on the board. If the chips hadn't have gone in by the flop they would have been on the turn and I would still have been beaten on the river.

If I had flat called the 4-Bet I would have shoved on the flop and again don't think my opponent is folding here either so would have been beaten by the river again.

So in conclusion I can't see a way in this hand that I can walk away from it the chips would have gone in and I would have lost on the river.

If anyone has any thoughts please feel free to post them.

See you at the tables.

Greatest read of all time...no mate I just got brains 53b49a04fbc1d96f5e98dcfa1949f2ac.jpg?v=144000

Today I am not going to talk about how it is going on the felt in 888poker world, not because it is going bad because I'm still running deep and getting my cashes (though have taken a slight loss in last couple of days). Instead I want to write a blog on the lighter side of life and hopefully amuse you at the same time (see how this goes shall we).

This incident took place on Monday night, I got in from work and the girlfriend said to me "What you doing tonight?". I fire off the usual reply "Don't know yet but there are no my888 tournaments tonight so no poker", the girlfiend suggests "So can we sit on the couch with the duvet and watch rubbish on the TV?", I answer "Yeah but got to go on the forum first and post a reply to a thread". So the deck has been shuffled and our starting hands are dealt.

Unfortunately on Monday night as I was posting on Nitevenom's hand of the day thread, Sean decided to try to tempt me in to playing poker by unveiling some new my888 tournaments, one of which was taking place that night (bad man Sean trying to lead me to temptation).

So I walk in to the front room and make a tentative pre-flop raise and say "There is a new tournament tonight". The girlfriend snap calls and shoots me a look... come on guys you all know the look, it is the one that looks like a cow passing wind.

50baafaa6ce301de0dcae91b888cec21.jpg?v=55750

The flop comes down and the girlfriend shoves all-in with the following, she sighs and utters "If you want to play the tournament you can if you want". anyone in a relationship knows she may have well retorted "Do want you want" which translates as "Do want you want but it better be the right choice i.e. what I want to do". I think for a moment maybe she's bluffing but in the end instant fold and concede with "No I said I wasn't playing poker we can watch TV".

Well managed to dodge that bullet and avoid a hissy fit. Was it a great read... no just been in a relationship for 5 years and used common sense.

See you at the tables.

Playing well and cashing but not really winning much 53b49a04fbc1d96f5e98dcfa1949f2ac.jpg?v=144000

I haven't blogged for a few days on the tournaments I have been playing so I better refresh on how it's going since returning to the virtual felt.

Thursday night took part in two my.888poker tournaments, The $200 Guaranteed and The $100 Knockout with mixed results.

The $100 Knockout saw me crash out in 14th, I woke up in early position with [card]QS[/card] [card]QD[/card] and raised the only person to call was the Big Blind with [card]AD[/card] [card]9C[/card]. The flop came down [card]10D[/card] [card]JD[/card] [card]7D[/card], Big Blind checks and I shove to try to take down the hand on the flop (I'm thinking only going to get called with the flush here). The Big Blind calls with an overcard, flush draw and gut shot straight draw so has plenty of outs to beat me. I hit the [card]QC[/card] on the turn to give me trips but the [card]KS[/card] on the river gives my opponent runner runner straight (better straight than his gut shot draw on the flop).

eb99a082ab5941214661b56b89abf9a8.jpg?v=259800

I faired much better in The $200 Guaranteed but ran out of steam near the end and busted out 5th bagging $12 for my efforts. The good thing to come out of the tournament is that I didn't take the rebuy or add-on so only cost me the buy-in and entry fee.

0a5eca314b4f7ef2c5af55f9c84976cb.jpg?v=256200

Friday I chilled out, didn't fancy a game so watched TV with the girlfriend and drank my whiskey I brought back from Edinburgh.

Decided to have a bit of a busy night on Saturday by playing 3 tournaments at once so that is why I wasn't my talkactive self in $100 Moderators Melee. The other 2 tournaments were $5,000 Guaranteed Deep Stack and $2,000 Guaranteed.

The first tournament to come to an end for me was $100 Moderators Melee and I'm still not sure how I cashed let alone finish in the top 3 as I played a hand very badly which leaft me very short stacked (long before the money places) but somehow managed to stay in a build a chipstack (chip and a chair people). It was disappointing not to take down this tournament but had a bit of bad luck as the chips swirled round the table when we were down to the last 3, my Jacks v Queens and I eventually went out when I hit the bottom end of the straight only for my opponent to hit the top end. Three handed those sort of hands are rare. Didn't claim any of the moderator's scalps so took home $15 for 3rd.

174c3b0b4173a7e6e9359a6975c9c214.jpg?v=256800

The $5,000 Guaranteed Deep Stack lefted me a bit gutted, I had been grafting away and finally got myself in the game where I was looking to cruise in to the money and look to run deep. Sadly I played a couple of hands badly starting with a suited JT and I really should have folded pocket tens when I called a min-raise only for a short stack to shove and the min-raiser snap called (then again if the poker gods had been smiling on me then I would have spiked my ten and the rest is history). I was left very short stacked and fighting to stay in and eventually went out 50th, 10 places out of the money (d'oh).

d656514619fe57aaeedacaf97ead5f53.jpg?v=258600

My final tournament of the night was probably the one I was most proud of due to the fact from about the last 70/80 players in $2,000 Guaranteed I was just trying to stay in the game to hit the cash places. That mentally stayed the same even after hitting the cash spots trying to slide in to the next payout structure, let me just say it was pretty poker I was playing for about the last 2 hours of the tournament (shove or fold). It paid off and what I can only describe as stumbled on to the final table, finally hitting the rail in 9th scooping $60.20  as a reward for my efforts to stay in the tournament.

0835d8a9912ff14ccb3455cf9caa8423.jpg?v=259800

On reflection I have been playing pretty well at the moment even though at times it has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, to be honest that hasn't bothered me as I have faith in my ability to get myself out of some tight spots.

However I do feel I haven't won as much as I feel I should have with the way I have been playing (or maybe I'm being greedy and want that big score). It would also be nice to take down one of the my.888poker tournaments I've been playing as I feel I have put myself in the position to take down a few recently only to bust out.

Well that is all from me at the moment, will probably play some my.888poker tournaments tonight.

Well another final table and a cash in the my.888poker tournaments 53b49a04fbc1d96f5e98dcfa1949f2ac.jpg?v=144000

Decided to play another my.888poker tournament as they have a smaller field which means I get still get up for work and still be able to function as a human being. I play the bigger field tournaments Friday and Saturday nights as I can just sleep-in if I run really deep.

Tonight was the $150 Team Challenge game although the Reds failed to win the team game even with 3 of us making the final table, I managed to claim another cash. The Yellows were deserved winners with 5 of their team making up the final table, so well done.

I became unstuck near the end of the tournament with the cursed river card dealing me a few blows which eventually busted me out 5th in a field of 32 runners. Still happy with the result but disappointed I couldn't run deeper in to the tournament and failure to win the team side of the tournament.

Won't be playing any of the my.888poker tournaments tomorrow night as I will be down the pub, so good luck everyone who plays and possibly see you in a tournament on Thursday.

See you on the tables.

Back to the tables after my holiday to Edinburgh 53b49a04fbc1d96f5e98dcfa1949f2ac.jpg?v=144000

Well after a nice relaxing holiday in Edinburgh and after my Redtooth Regional Finals in Liverpool I actually found the time to play some online poker finally.

The Regional Finals in Liverpool didn't go to well busting out 27th out of 120 odd people but my friend Jason from my local pub was more upset busting out 12th.

I was short stacked for most of the game and eventually shoved to a raise with AQos the guy next to me called and the initial raiser shoved his last 5k in and the flat caller threw in the extra 5K. It was a bit of a mad hand but I knew I was beat when the cards turned over. The initial raiser had AA and the other guy had A5s. A5s busted both of us out by hitting trip fives on the flop.

I then spent the next four days in Edinburgh and had an absolutely amazing time, will try to post a blog this week with pictures I've taken from my time there (no promises though).

Saturday night was simply too tired to play poker but tonight I was wanting a game.

Played two my.888 tournaments ($150 Deep Stack and Sunday League) and didn't just final table both of them but cashed in both as well.
