The weather up here in the Borders of Scotland has been a bit dismal these last days, much coldness and even MORE muchness of snow. So, Im driving along, slowly, there is about 75ft deep snow, 10in of ice, cars are crawling at a snails pace. As far as the eye can see it is totally and utterly WHITE. There are cars, trucks, vans, tractors, railway engines, rickshaws and submarines stranded in the hedges and ditches. Folks are stranded in their cars and the future is looking bleak lest they are rescued esto pronto. So, THAT is the scene, now for the coup de gras, WHAT do you think I see at the side of the road ? I ll tell yer what, a GREAT BIG F+++ OFF SIGN, electronic and neon which is a "message board" essentially, and it reads; W I N T R Y C O N D I T I O N S, DRIVE CAREFULLY. I mean, seriously. These things are EVERYWHERE up here and no doubt the rest of the country. These things cost tens of thousands of £££££s, have hugely expensive "maintenance" contracts and clearly their purpose ? TO STATE THE ABSOLUTELY BLEEDING OBVIOUS. Other messages I have noticed at huge expense; E N S U R E YOU HAVE ENOUGH FUEL FOR YOUR JOURNEY, CHECK YOUR TYRE PRESSURES, ENSURE YOU HAVE A CHILDSEAT FOR YOUR CHILD. I am convinced that before long these messages will read; DID YOU REMEMBER TO GET THE POTATOES AND MILK, SHE LL KILL YOU OTHERWISE MATE. BEANS MAKE YOU FART. DONT SCREW AROUND BEHIND YER HUSBAND/WIFES BACK, IT CAN BE EXPENSIVE. And the list could go on and on, what concerns me is that we have 65,000 children awaiting adoption, no money to speed the processes up. Elderly a plenty who are afeard to put their fires on and are freezing. A Health Service creaking at the seams. Post code lottery for vital medications , etc etc etc, and yet ANOTHER list that is endless. BUT we spend countless thousands on these inane pieces of garbage which simply tell us that which we already know. Post here please where YOU see total and utter wastage by your Local Authorities. Rant over (temporarily), signed; Biggaz (capo de tutti capo)

Agree with loads of what you said Para, I expect at anytime A new motorway sign will be erected asking! " Have You Remembered Your Car?" Just open any newspaper any morning, and read about some ridiculous waste of money, by The Government or a Council, or both! How about the Doctor awarded £4.5Million squids for being poorly treated over her Maternity Leave, awww bless her!! How many cancelled operations and sacked nurses will that mean? You couldn't make some of this stuff up. Gawd Bless Ya Guv.......... LOL Jeanie

aye, and apparently she now has a psychiatric illness and if she has then thats not good. Soldiers are coming back from Afghanistan missing limbs, brain damaged etc etc and have to practically BEG for help in some cases. Two months ago a fella with EIGHTEEN yrs service left the army, he went back to Aberdeen where he was born and raised and COULD NOT get a poxy council house. I m pretty sure the doctor who was ill-treated will now be able to get "better".

Nobody rants like you Para but you are right, seriously.
Was crossing the road with a youngster today at the flashing crossing and guy whizzing down road in his car at least 40 mph, I just knew he hadn't seen the red light so stopped before we got half way just in time as he was talking to his passenger and just flew through the lights. I wouldn't be sitting here tonight if I hadn't had the sensibility to judge him. There was a van who had stopped for us the driver was horrified, shouted and pointed out to him.
How many more flashing lights do some drivers need. Amen

Quite incredible. And just to add another take on how the country is being taken to the cleaners. I knew an Iranian fella in Margate some yrs back. He found out when the local CHURCH, of all places was having the floors washed. He quite DELIBERATLEY went in whilst the cleaner was doing his/her stuff and purposefully "slipped". Got a crooked solicitor and was awarded nearly NINE THOUSAND POUNDS. Guess whos paying folks ?
