This for me is the biggest waste of public money I have seen for a long time celebrating 60 years of living at the tax payers expense is obviously ok for some..The snobbery and pomposity of nearly all of the commentators shouting this event on is staggering..of course the old chestnut "the royal family bring in loads of money from tourists" will come out seems to me thats the only weak argument that can be formulated for this outdated practice called royalty.. the amount of money being spent on not only the celebration itself but all of the things that surround these events whilst everyone else(us common folk) are being told to pull your belts in pahhhhh (rant over and btw kay thinks Im a misery for thinking such things ).. So what do you think is this a worth while celebration or a complete waste of time that will drive you mad this weekend because that is all you will be able to see on nearly every bit of media about?

Always love a well-crafted rant - n1 Dan! Mostly my feelings about the jubilee can be summed up as "meh", but very happy to take the free day off. Will do my best to avoid the sycophantic drivel spouted by TV commentators while watching the pretty boats on the Thames on Sunday and looking forward to pimms, champagne and pineapple/cheese on cocktail sticks on Monday... oh, and a two day live poker tourney on Saturday and Tuesday As for the cost - don't forget "we're all in this together"

Dan, does this mean No Street Party Then? Respect your point of view, but have to say, I love the monarchy, and I love the way we put on our displays of Pomp and Pagentry, no other Country in the World can match us for Military Displays. Bands, Pageants and Fly pasts, bring it on I love it One consolation Dan, unlikely to be another Diamond Jubilee in your life time Hope you all enjoy the extra long weekend, however you choose to spend it Jeanie

blimey and they call me grump. in the almost 1000 years of the written history of this nation there has only ever been one other golden jubilee. as a head of state she costs £1 per person per year. she has never fiddled her expenses, had an affair with her secretary, been found hanging in her kitchen wearing stockings with an orange in her mouth, sold state secrets to foriegn nations, started unwanted wars in far away nations that have shite all to do with us, let big buisness bribe her for questions in the house of commons, sold her sole to rupert murdoch,
surely as a nation we can say job well done maam
