Decided this year to play more tournaments and less cash tables and the odd sng tables whilst playing the tournaments.
I am back working doing light duties after my op and working at a local universty which is a nice job.
My day starts with my son waking me up at between 6-30 - 7 every day as he likes to get me down and watch him play on his play station before i go to work.
The uni is all maintenance work so is a good little number. At lunch we norm play BG or cards either crib or rummy we only play pound games for a bit of fun but it has paid for my lunch since i have worked there.
When i get home i help my son do his home work then try and get out for a quick cycle with him or a kick about.
I then norm catch up in the forums and always like seeing others do well, i hate negative posts as it creates to much negativty.
As i said above i am trying to play more Tournaments online and live this year i have set aside 1k for each, and hopefully by the end of the year i show some profit.
Update so far have not had a great start 42 Tournaments in ranging from $1 to $12 games and am $106 down, cashed in only 4 and am running bad where i dont seem to be getting the breaks. The funny thing is i seem to tilt in Tournaments where i never got phased in cash tables, which is quite weird as could quite easily loose 2-3 buyins to suck outs which could equate to $75-$150 and yet my highest buyin has only been $12. I think it annoys me going deep but just crashing near the end. I have been told by a good friend to get as many games in and ride the variance out as like in all forms of poker if you keep getting it in good it will all come good in the end. The thing is going over my HH a few of the games i am getting it in bad where im 25-30% dog. Just need to know more of my targets out there and build up a nice lot of notes who not to clash with.
Playing the sngs on the side helps pass the time in the tournaments, as have now decided not to load up cash tables and focus only on tournaments and sngs so my other site i play on i will withdraw my funds and have a little treat (looking at a new poker chair). As want to concentrate at the tournaments in here and hopefully join XRay in the winners thread.
I will give this a good stab at, but have never realy been a tourney player, but im up for the challenge, i know that this year i wont make much money and i will prob be happy just to double my money. If i lose it all within a few months i will just go back to the cash tables and grind it back, i am just finding cash tables just that a big grind and it gets very boring at times, where going deep in a tournament or even getting to a FT gives me that buzz or spark that i have lost from cash tables.
Am nearly at my 500 games mark in my DON sng challenge, which is going well and will prob have a stab at another format after, prob 6 max.
Well i have waffled on a bit to much hopefully see you all in a few forum games or on the main site games, try not to take all my chips lol.
Now going to watch Game of Thrones as sons in bed and its a little bit naughty for him then i will watch a little bit of poker and prob play few of my DON sngs and then norm go to bed between 12 and 1.
If this is crap just tell me and i wont bother as not sure its good reading.

Nice start.  Insight behind the person is always great.  And yes its hard going in the tournaments, especially when you have been playing for two hours, due to late registration and then you get knocked out!  I have changed my playing tactics this year. Making a few dollars on the cash tables and then using the cash for tournaments.  The plan is to play more tournaments and hope to have the success that I had elsewhere.  However I have found these last few weeks, when I hit the cash on the cash tables I do not make on the tournaments!  AND vice versa, Keep grinding and I will be looking out for your next entry even if it is in a couple of weeks.

Nice start slim

You're not the first one to think what you write about will be boring to others, and you wont be the last, but the truth is we get to see the person behind the avatar

Having met you a couple of times I knew you were a level headed family guy, one of the good guys in fact, and having played poker against you and read hand analysis from you I know you will achieve your poker goals as long as you can stay focussed, I would just say "be flexible" with your strategy going forwards, maybe cut down on the cash tables but have 1 or 2 running behind tournaments, I find this keeps me focussed during the long folding periods in tournaments and stops me looking for action, the tournament grind is a hard slog but very rewarding at times, to start with I would select a daily set of tournaments to play and stick to them, then on days you are playing you have your target tournaments already lined up, you'll meet a lot of the same players if you do this, and you should focuss better than if you just jump around looking for something to play

The good thing about these journals is you don't have to write every post for others to enjoy, you can log highs and lows, set goals that you can come back to later to remind yourself of your aims, rant about life in general or anything else, or even share information you found interesting or funny, where it goes is your decision, and it will become easier to write when you're not trying to make sure others are enjoying it, because you will write about things that others are going to enjoy anyway

Onwards and upwards m8

Your journal cannot be any more ordinary than mine slim, yes it is good reading , it would be weird wouldnt it if we all had very exciting lives , anyway normality is good.

I wouldnt be able to resist pinching your sons playstation and playing myself I love games, he would struggle to get it back.

I am glad to hear you are back at work and glad your enjoying it and I hope your health continues to improve.

Well that week has flown by. Have been very busy at work with the cold snap, i have to look after about 25 plant rooms that range from having 1 to 6 boilers in them and up to a dozen pumps in each and prob over a thousand valves that all need to be working corectly.
And as soon as its cold i get numerous staff moaning there radiators to hot or to cold or its making a funny noise etc its a never ending job this time of year, but like i said above its a nice place to work.
Another problem i am having at the uni is that the house keeping dept have decided to change the toilet roll supplier as its cheaper, but the problem is its blocking up all my old drains as its not breaking up. So this week has been very busy jetting drains and keeping every one warm.
My son is also doing very well at school and has been picked to be in the maths team for his year against the other local schools, he has always been good at maths having picked it up from playing cards with me and prob knows now what % i am to win on flops than i do lol.
He had to go through heats at the school and he beat every one from the other classes not getting 1 question wrong. So fingers crossed he does well against the other schools.
I have another hobby as well as my poker, i keep tropical fish i have done since i was 16.
I am trying to breed Cichilds at the moment but am not having much luck as i had 1 fish that was bullying the others but have now sorted that as have put him in the spare tank.
I have my fish tank next to where i play poker, its nice to just see them swimming about and prefer that than the tv being on.
Update on poker. Well i havent realy had much time to play as been so busy at work, i did manage to hit my 500 mark in my hi lo DON challenge and was happy with the results, but have now had a challenge that i wont be able to keep the same roi in the next 500 and there is a nice bit of money on it if i decide to take the bet on. He has offered me a 1% swing in difference this means i would need to have a return of at least 8.3% in next 500 games or i would lose the bet.
Have played a few more tournaments but have been running bad, not getting any breaks and seem to be getting the variance we all get, i just need to ride out the wave.
Have now Played 70 Tournies and am $-33.26. So i have clawed a bit back from last week. Am hoping i can get it above 0 by next week. I just need to find a bit more time to play as i wont play if i get in to tired as i know i may as well give away my money.
I may play my 1st live game this weekend but undecided yet, will depend how i feel Saturday morning.
Anyhow thats enough of my waffling and am going up for early night now. Good luck all on the tables.

As i was reading I was sure you were going to end the line with.... "but have now sorted that as have put him in the frying pan............ or the cat's bowl" Smile

I keep my fish in the kitchen as the noise of the airpump and water filter annoy me when tv is off and I want quiet.

Well done to you and your boy for the Maths, slim.  You talking percentages etc with him would definitely have helped and increased his interest in Maths.  Good luck to him and his team.

Good luck in your challenges too.  I would forget the increased DON challenge...as good as you are.  You can make more of your time else where. GL.

congratulations for your son.  My eldest keeps tropical fish, and is forever checking water.  Me the only thing we have is a cat, and she usually sits in front of the screen whilst I am trying to play!.  Good luck with the tournies, it will turn around I am sure

Another week flown by. Havent felt great this week as had a bad head cold. Still busy at work and am on call every other week so this week i cant play much poker.
My tournies are going bad, only played 16 in here this week and havent cashed in any. And when i go over the hand history of games 15 out of the 16 i am favourite either pre flop or on the flop, so i am running bad, which is now begging to grate me, and will prob def be on a negative for this month, just going to play the reward games now tonight as seems i cant do anything right in my omaha tournies even though i am getting it in good.
So i am 86 tournaments in with now a loss of $-111.36. Just need a deep run and a few FTs and i can start getting the ball rolling and hopefully get back in profit.
Next week i can hopefully get in some more volume and should be able to dedicate 4-5 hours a night depending on how i feel, if i get to many suck outs it knocks the wind out of me and i norm close the site down.
2mo morn i am helping an old neighbour clear out her garden as she is very old and on her own and its to much work for her and i dont mind weeding and cutting back ivy as thats in my garden scope lol.
Will get to play my 1st live game this week which is a £25 bounty game so fingers crossed for Wednesday night.
Hope next week i have positive things to post.

Just an update with the reward tournaments.

Bronze game in LP with Ad Kd theres a raise and i reraise allin both have around 20bbs get called by As Qh flop gives a Queen and im bust out.

Gold game in early pos with AA make 2.5bb raise and get shoved on  and he holds 22.
Flop brings a 2. Both had over 30 bbs. I dont catch my Ace so bust out of that.

Platinum game down to 15bbs in big blind with J J shove on a 3 way limped pot, and 8 9 calls me for 80% of his stack flop brings 8 and a 9 board doesnt run out for me so out of that as well.

I could post up my beats in the omaha games and a knock out game i played but i wont as i want my journal to be positive and not a negative 1. But it does seem im in an up an uphill battle at present and am not going to give up my tourney challenge after 1 month because of bad beats. Still have over 88% of my tourney roll left when or if i get down to 50% i will start to worry.
