On 26 June 2012, I received an email from 888poker offering entry into AussieMania $3,000 tournament if I played 40 SnGs in the next week. I thought, "Why not?" and registered. I sent a request through their support site, asking whether there was any way to track how many I'd played to ensure meeting the requirements (I've been sick and haven't played much volume). I received no response but thought, "Oh well, if I qualify all's well and if I don't, no big deal."

On 3 July 2012, I received a confirmation email that I had qualified. Great, right? Well, the email stated that I had won a seat in the tournament starting 20 June 2012. Hmmm, that's odd considering the initial invite was dated after the tournament was run and won.

I sent off another request for an explanation via 888's support site. Their response was less than satisfactory.  I address each of their points within my responding email, a copy of which appears below:

I have edited my original response as my frustration came out as rudeness.  I have now taken a more measured response by addressing each of your statements within your email below:

Dear Richard,

Thank you for contacting us.

I had to contact you twice, once through the 888poker online support site (to which I received no response, just like my first request for assistance about how to keep track of my status for this challenge), then via this email address.

My name is Luanne, a support representative of 888casino and it is my pleasure assisting you with your query.

Unfortunately, Richard, the 3k AussieMania Tournament took place 20th June, 2012 at 7:00pm. The reason my colleague was not able to see the tournament you won a seat for is because the tournament seat you won had already passed 15 days ago.

"My colleague," what colleague?  Do you mean the one who decided not to respond to my original request?  You are the only one I have any contact from so I'm a little baffled as to who you are referring to.  Also, you have pointed out nothing new.  The reason for my query was, why was I invited and encouraged to register, qualify and partake in a tournament that had already been run and won?  You will note that the 1st email I received on the 26/6/12, encouraged me to register for the promo and play 40 SnGs between 25/6/12 and 1/7/12.  It also states that once completed, I would receive a tournament invite by email on 2/7/12.  Nowhere in the email is there mentioned that the relevant tournament date was 20/6/12.

The photos you sent are for two different event dates. The first picture was dated the 25th of July, if you had won a seat it would have been for the 4th of July, 2012 but you did not win a seat. The second photo where you won a seat, that AussieMania Tournament was held on the 20th of July, 2012.

What is it with you guys and dates?  "The first picture was dates the 25th of July."  Hmmm, I think you mean June.  "...that AussieMania Tournament was held on the 20th of July, 2012."  Ummm, I'm sure you mean June.  Regardless, as stated above, there is no mention in the original email (photo 1) that the tournament was to be on 4/7/12.  "...but you did not win a seat."  However, I received an email on 3/7/12 saying that I'd "got a seat in the final AussieMania Tournament!"  Now, it's interesting that you state that had I won a seat it would be on 4/7/12, whereas the second email (photo 2) states the "final" tournament date as 20/6/12.  And why would 888 even send me an email on 3/7 saying I'd won a seat for the tournament on 20/6?  That just makes no sense!

In the future, please pay attention to the date for the events you won on the same flyer you receive in your email.

The whole reason for my query was that there was no date on the 1st email (just dates for the challenge I had to complete to qualify) and that the date stated in the 2nd email had already passed.  I did "pay attention" and was consequently confused that I would receive an email in July for a tournament in June.  I find it offensive that you would suggest I pay attention when I clearly did, not to mention that the person making this suggestion didn't even proof-read their response and if they did, missed that they had twice said July instead of June (quite ironic, really).

If you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us again - we are always here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

It certainly doesn't feel that way.  My first request for help (asking how to keep track of how many SnGs I had completed so I would know my status for the qualification for the tournament) via your online support site went unanswered.  My second request (when I sent the 2 photos and details of this confusion) also went unanswered until I sent a third request via the 888casino support email address.  Only then did I receive an automated response stating that my query had been received.  Then a day and a half later, I received your email containing umpteen unsatisfactory remarks and find that my query has not been adequately resolved.

I can assure you I will not.  I feel sucked in to play more SnGs than I probably would've to qualify for a tournament that has already been run and won.  Poor form!

Also, you may like to know that, seeking answers, I put details of this issue in a post on the pokerstrategy.com forum.  I noted in perusing some other posts that someone else had a similar problem of having received a tournament invite to an event that had already been run a week earlier - there post was titled "888 is so funny."  It would seem you have a reputation that some find amusing.  I do not!

We look forward to assisting you again soon.

Me too!!!

(End of email)

I am yet to receive a response and feel that I have already wasted more than enough time that, in the end, will not be worth the effort.  If anyone can help, great!  If not, bye-bye 888!!!

Thanks for the offer, Sean, but I received a detailed response to my detailed response and to summarise I was indeed owed something. They apologised for the mix up and unintentional offense (telling me to pay more attention to the dates within emails) and credited my account with something worth more than I missed out on. The effort now seems worth it.

Thanks again!
