With the boom in re-buy/add on tournaments across poker sites (yes it’s not only here at 888) I thought it was about time we broached the old subject of strategies for these games, like when do you rebuy if at all? Do you always add on? Do you have a set budget? And at what point does re-buying become non cost effective, what do you think of the buying in 5 minutes before the break then taking the re-buy and add on just to avoid the re-buy period strategy?

You often see people saying that they had 1 re-buy but no add on, or they joined the game never intending to re-buy or add on, others describe games where they frequently re-bought back in.

Obviously I have my own opinions of strategies, and I will give detailed reasons of my opinions later, but to start off with let’s hear what others think and how they go about playing these games.

if and when BR permits I like to do 2 rebuys right at the start and the add on dependent on what my standings are at that point . Most times though my BR can not meet with this rule so I just play my best without  the re-buy or the add on .

Well this all depends on the game really.

99c frenzies I will re-buy if needed until I feel like there is no point, and always take the add-ons.

Other rebuys i usually limit to 2-3 with the second being a double rebuy. i.e I will play with my starting stack unless I bust then I will double re-buy (unless I bust early lol), this is more for if the rebuy would only give you 10BB

The only games I don't do this in is challenges or games I have satted into as usually this is beyond my BR.

I prefer no re-buy games I have to admit, but my favourite rebuy games are 1 x rebuy 1 x add-on

I have also bought in with 1 min 2 go and rebuy and then add-on and usually you can make the money doing this, but its not a winning strategy its a strategy to cash I find

hi m888s ... i hate the rebuy games & avoid them but if i an going to play them i will do a verry late rego then addon , i never rebuy but an addon is always good if you get that far however if im chip leader or have a fat stack i will not add on.

i dont like this rebuy/addon games at all, but of course i am playing some of them. my tactic depends on the gamestructure, if like in all the superstackstack games the addon is much bigger than the rebuy for same costs i buy in late, never rebuy but always addon. in for example the bronce-rewardgame i never rebuy or addon because its only a ripoff. dont understand why others do but thats maybe their tactic. its funny to see in the silver$-freeroll that their are unlimited addons, some players doing this many addons that they could have buyed the coin themselfs at the start lol.

yes i play the freeroll well i used to now i only play the copper bronze  & silver ones, but never ever ever rebuy in a freeroll, i mean whats the point if you rebuy in a freeroll it isnt a freeroll. i see players do it & have a good old chuckle. ile also add with the WSOP 1 buck sats the way to do it in my oppinion is do a last minute rego hit the time button then do my addon so i got 4000 in chips & its usually push or fold until i get a double or trip up. many players are doing it this way otherwise you could do 3 or 4 rebuys & bust out before rego is closed.

For me it depends on the blind levels , if the blinds are above 10 mins I like to start from the start and play tightish and punish the maniacs , hopefully not needing any Rebuys  , always add on . As for tourneys like the wacko i would double rebuy and add on late as possible because its just a "wacko" tourney. I don't think u should play these if u can't afford about 5 Rebuys and a add on . U shouldn't need anymore than that unless u go bonkers .

I keep an eye on the the 1st payout, these tournies have higher then average payouts when and if you hit the money. as these are bingo tournies, till the re-buy period ends, I try to keep my re-buys to 1/2 or less of the 1st payout.

as for a re-buy, I don't re-buy if I am in the top 20% at the break.

i'm getting abit of a taste for R/A all depends on what game theres a few tastey ones out there !

I can donk enough re-buys to give me enough chips to play loose/aggro I don't want to be sat playing tight in these games cos the beats are only going to hurt that little bit more
set a limit. Stack up then take the add-on if it's goning to add 25% or more chips to my stack.

the 12k rebuy , this is how i play it . start at the start of the tourney , there is alot of players in this 1 so theres plenty of chips to be had. im limping or calling small raises with any pocket pair below 10s  the reason im not raising pre with pocket pair is because your gonna get called by many people and i dont fancy 5 people in a pot with 77 , i prefer being sneaky and hitting a set for cheap and letting the manicas bet at u. jj and above im raising or reaising , same as akaq maybe aj depending on players. once u hit a good pot which u will and get a decent stack i tend to tighten up a little , im not gonna call a all in with aj or 1010 for my whole stack . im happy getting to the break in the top half of players , say 450/904 then add on , now the fun starts , there is alot of players out there with large stacks who are fish/donks/maniacs who got lucky, its your job to find these guys and take there chips . blinds move fast so u got to be aggresive . dont bluff they people , they will call u with nothing. just play good hands and notice whos the crazys that are at ure table and punish them:). thats how i play it , maybe wrong but it works for me gl. ps BE AGGRESIVE GRRRRRRRRRR
