I was wondering if study groups are in the plans for this forum ? Say 1/2 hour a week on a regular basis , each group having a coach with knowledge on group topic . topic's ( or groups ) being beginner intermidiate senior (advanced ) MTT SNG Cash games holdem omaha hu each with a sub group of F/L , P/L , N/L and Cap games I know this would require knowledgable players to coach and am sure we can find them within the community . anyone interested in either the coaching position or joing one or more of these groups please comment on this thread . This should be voluntary , and Skype or some such method can be used to converse with each other . It would also be a good idea to perhaps put a maximum restriction as to number of participants per session , say nine that is a full table . Is it possible to have a private table for each type of group in practice play , if not how about a 1 cent table on money play , am sure the participants would pay at least that to learn.. the 1 cent would be the rake for 888 and the winners get to learn sounds fair to me... My vote is yes as a participant (do not know enough to coach) PS : Skype is free to download and to use let me know what you think

That's an interesting idea Venom, let's see how many think the same before looking further into the logistics.

Sounds like a great idea.
As for coaches? they don't need to be world beaters like Phil Ivey and Co, just better than the players that may come here seeking help. Eg any of us could help someone that has yet to play their first hand? yes?
ANyone that wins at ring games could coach me at those games etc.
I recently took up plo8 sng and mtts so anyone with any experience with plo8 could have helped me through the initial steep learning curve and any consistant small winner at that game can help me further. Itm 50% so far.
There are quite a few heads here that i would like to explore deeper than what is usually offered up.
So count me in as +1

that is right Rod , by coach I meant anyone with better knowledge than I ... but in this format we could analyze each others play and give pointers and thoughts on how the hand should have , could have been played .

Yeah it's a good idea but as the old saying goes u don't get much for free . I looked into getting a coach and their not cheap , I had 1 lined up before the wsop started but obviously he went to Vegas to play and never got back in touch . Couldn't afford it now anyways ( spent it on hols etc ) so I would love it for free here but I don't see many willing to do it for free :(

yeah , I seen prices from $125.00 and upwards of $450.00 ..per hour ? session ? I can not afford to pay and not only that How do you know if they are as good as they say they are and most important can they teach . Knowing something and being able to teach it is 2 very different things .
The study groups I had in mind , is like students in a classroom all there to learn and ready to interact with each other (2 heads better than one , 9 heads better yet) . As long as the intent is on improving ones game , everyone in the group will benifit and learn . 8 people + you = 9 , when we sit at a table ,we see what we do we see what the others do and so can make observations , point out mistakes offer alternative moves ... things like that , people who seriously want to learn will participate honestly ... coach or no coach :)

yea that would be good. u mean u can see there hole cards but you play like normal? interesting concept, maybe a mod can set it up. . maybe each week a different mod can chair it. maybe pay like 5 cents rake to 888 to get in... interesting lets see what wkdwitch thinks.

I can see a few issues with this for starters
- 1. It's too big a big commitment to ask somebody to ensure they are free to chair a session, life has a habbit of happening at unexpected times so it would need to be at short notice, would enough people have time to enter?
- 2. You wil not find coaches for most of the topics within this community so would need to be looking elsewhere, and we certainly don't have the people capable of teaching advanced levels now (if we ever did) people who can teach this charge hundreds an hour for it
- 3 There are too many styles of play for one coach per topic to be effective, there is only one mathematically perfect way to play but there are many styles, it doesn't matter which style you pick as long as you remember the maths
And playing with open hole cards is a no no as people are easilly influenced! They will make decisions based on what they can see not what they think is correct and will learn nothing of value that way, and I know this as I've tried it before at "poker in the park" I think the idea of dedicated games for poker discussion is good, and there is an easy way to implement them which doesn't cause Sean or 888 a heap more work, but for it to work it would need a group of players willing to host games and a pool of players willing to post hands from those games, there's no point having players in the games who aren't willing to post or discuss hands as it would defeat the objective of the game I'll flesh the idea out at some point today and post it in chip chat later to see if there's any interest
I'm too old to die young
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
