It was only today that i discovered a now WORLD CLASS player (especially considering his form all season for a certain team in blue) had SURPRISINGLY high ODDS on 888 to be TOP GOAL SCORER at this year's WORLD CUP.

Who is this player? and what ODDS are being offered on him topping the SCORING?

Well i guess i spoiled that with the Title Headline it's of course RAHEEM STERLING & i know what some of you are thinking?
WHAT?
He won't top the scoring at this years WORLD CUP!!! he hasn't even scored for England for yonks!

I get it & he's classified as a MIDFIELDER too but seriously training with the rest of the ENGLAND players & getting used to them more, if he can replicate the form he's produced for Manchester City he has (IMO) every chance of hitting as many (if not more goals) than HARRY KANE at this years tournament.

Of course KANE being the main STRIKER is more likely to do so (hence the 17-1 with 888) get on that i'd say, he'll give you (i hope) a good run for your money but STERLING too must be way overpriced at 100-1? don't you think?

ENGLAND play in the GROUP STAGES...

Tunisa
Panama
& Belguim

How many goals do you need to ususually win THE GOLDEN BOOT? the average if i am not mistaken? is around 6, although 5 has done too in the past i understand.

I can see KANE but also STERLING (if Southgate uses him (as we hope) as a sort of attacking central midfielder /striker simialr to how Guardy plays him at CITY, rather than sticking him as others have done in the past over on the wings...you have to get him in the right positions...do this & it's clear by the amount of goals he's scored for CITY hthis season that he could do the same for ENGLAND & he will need to for us to WIN IT)
I can see either of these two EXCITING PLAYERS getting 4,5,6 or even 7 goals EACH by the end of the tournament.

I would expect one or the other (or both) to get INTO THE GOALS in those first 2 games (vs Tunisa & Panama) & by the end of those i would hope KANE / STERLING (or both) to have 2 maybe 3 goals by this point?
If so? that sets them up nicely for winning this GOLDEN BOOT.
England 1st though FELLA's ok? and perhaps another 1 for one of them vs Belgium?

So by the end of the GROUP STAGES couldn't you see one of these fella's perhaps having scored 3, 4 or even 5? well i am expecting BIG things from both with perhaps even a HAT-TRICK in the offering for one of them?

After this...it's onto the LAST 16 (fingers crossed) where we (ENGLAND) are likely to meet either? well who knows really? it's tricky! if we win the group or finish second it could be COLOMBIA or SENEGAL or POLAND or even JAPAN but i would be surprised if we didn't progress past such teams? if you cannot beat teams like this you clearly don't deserve to win the World Cup but again i can see KANE or STERLING getting 1 or even 2 here against whichever side we come up against.
This could take one of them to 4, 5 maybe even 6 goals already at this point.

It's NOT Impossible...i have real believe for this young side this time.

Onto the Quarter Finals (PLEASE...i's about time we got to at least this stage again?) and here it gets interesting because if you win GROUP G your likely to meet BRAZIL at this stage!

Tricky, although we surprisingly outplayed them at WEMBLEY earning a 0-0 against them & that was with a weakened ENGLAND side & we should have beat them!
BRAZIL will no doubt be favourites should this game happen at this stage? but i think we can win this one? although apart from meeting SPAIN i think it's about as tricky as you could get.

But even if we don't get past this stage it is not out of the question that by this stage KANE or STERLING might have added another goal to their tally & that with these latter stages usually a tight affair with many a 1-0 scorline COULD have enough to win the BOOT?

Then again, strangely...

ENGLAND could finish 2nd in GROUP G & assuming we come through against the top team in Group H in the Last 16 (got to love assumptions huh?) then it would actually (in my view) make it a somewhat more easier pathway to a possible FINAL as your likely to meet GERMANY at this Quater Final stage (rather than Brazil) in which case we can expect the
usual, we play better than them in the game but they end up taking it to penalties & beat us?
Well...NOT THIS TIME i think!
i'd make ENGLAND favourites in such a meeting  & would expect us to win this one & would look forward to such a meeting...as i am sure HARRY & RAHEEM would.

I'll end my what's, if's & maybe's? here but i hope you see where i'm going with this in that i think ENGLAND have a GOOD fighters chance of progressing right up to the SEMI-FINALS, if not THE FINAL & even WINNING it & with that we might well have the GOLDEN BOOT winner hmm to BOOT Laughing

Here's the THING...
Raheem Sterling is 100-1 to be TOP SCORER with 888.

I am truly SHOCKED?

I was curious to see his price...perhaps expecting to see 33-1, maybe 25-1 but 100-1!!!
That means they are giving him very little chance!
Yet if both he & England have a GREAT tournament & get deep into it he has every chance of picking up this GOLDEN BOOT goalscoring trophy.

AM I MAD?

Perhaps but i'm on both HARRY KANE at 17-1 & RAHEEM STERLING at 100-1 to do so.

Can't wait for it now.

A FEW IDEAS for you folks to make it a more FUN World Cup perhaps?

Just got myself a neat small compact projector & i am hoping to project a few games upto 120 inches wide onto one of our walls making them look almost real life sized...DAD bring him down will ya before he reaches our box Laughing

I also took delievery recently of a rather neat retro looking hexagonal patched FOOTBALL in the shape of an LED LAMP complete with REMOTE CONTROL off E-Bay, it cost just over £10 including P&P (others are asking upto £20 for them so i did OK) tried it out & it's rather COOL.
There are approx 7 different colours you can set it to the TEAM's SHIRT COLOURS your supporting for that particular game, so...

WHITE...England.
RED...Spain
YELLOW...Brazil
BLUE...for ITALY (Doh!) still can't believe they didn't make it and then back to...
WHITE...for GERMANY!!! no not really Smile

We got a FLAG (sadly can't use the Irish one...Argghhh), a Soft Toy LION wearing a 3 LIONS Shirt & a small SOFTBALL with England LOGO upon it.

We've even got a SUBUTTEO set up...we have the full set from EURO '96 but usually for the EURO's & WORLD CUP just get out the basics...a GOAL, Goalkeeper, 1 CORNER KICK figure (rather than the normal Subutteo figure...you'll see why? in a sec) a Ball (retro looking one like this 3D LED Lamp) and the cloth pitch (which we'll only use the top section of)
To PLAY a TOURNAMENT Long PENALTY SHOOT-OUT Competition (ENGLAND should employ us to do so if it goes that far in the KO stages Wink)

We have even got a special custom made to order set of SUBUTTEO TEAMS from the fun footballing film "ESCAPE TO VICTORY" & original press photo framed up showing the whole team (actually asked for one of these players to be customised to have the JOHN WARK tash which he kindly did for me) LOVE the LITTLE DUDES.

Oh & finally i have my LIFE SIZE replica WORLD CUP TROPHY to bring down.

These can be found on E BAY for as little as £24.99 + £5 P&P now, i paid more a few years for mine at £35, hell even FIFA have jumped on the bandwagon this time releasing their own nicely BOXED replica but it will cost ya over £100 (£120 i think?) and for that you would expect the quailty to be far better than the likes of mine & these others at £30 but the only difference i can see is the GREEN Malochite? is that right? which is marbled on the real one but for FIFA's it looks to be painted? where as on mine & these others it's wrapped with GREEN TAPE but for the difference in price of £90 is it really worth it?
Maybe?
But mine 4 years later still looks the part, it's not fallen to bits yet.

Now just need the grub, the drink & THE WALLCHART (a good, BIG, Glossy one) oh and for ENGLAND to final TURN UP & make us PROUD.

GAME On.

Oh and just in case you think this little lot of WORLD CUP bootie might be expensive?

It really isn't when compared to what (surprisngly) it will cost you for completing your PANINI World Cup sticker album (which has some 681 sticker spaces) & would cost you if you were VERY LUCKY around £70 minimum to complete but could cost you up to (without any swaps) in teh region of just under £300 according to a recent newspaper article)

£300 for a complete PANINI album with stickers! welll YOU CAN STICK IT Laughing

Damn, i LOVED doing these when i was a kid in the 70's & 80's but that's NUTS!!!

Yes i have the album (got it FREE in a Supermarket) but NO i won't be buying any stcikers for it.

I hope those FUN Footballing items gave you some ideas...

The 3D LED FOOTBALL Lamp was just over £10 (less if you don't want the remote)

I picked up my small Projector for just over £50 (most expensive thing)

The England FLAG cost £1 (from you know where)
Have a BRAZIL one too (cost me more at £5 for the last World Cup) but come on who don't like how Brazil play football (and England are heading that way it seems...PROPER football & ATTACKING too)

LION England soft toy came with the Softball with England LOGO Oh and a England BACKPACK (after ENGLAND were KO'd at the GROUP STAGE in Brazil) TESCO sold them all off for just £1.50 as i think (like we England fans) they were just CHEESED OFF at exiting so early, i can't see that happening again this time (famous last words)

You can pick up a Subutteo Cloth Pitch, 1 goal, a Corner Kicker (it's more realistic & FUN having these take the penalties) a BALL & GK for around £5.

Although the custom made "ESCAPE TO VICTORY" subutteo sets i must admit were kinda pricey at the time, a new boxed team usually costs £5-10 & this set of 2 teams comprised of GERMANY & the ALLIES with both costing £29.99 plus P&P...pricey for sure but they DISPLAY WONDERFULLY on their old looking RETRO Subutteo Green & White Boxes Laughing
Such a GEEK!

And yes the REPLICA life sized World Cup Trophy set me back £35 at the time about 5 years ago.

But as you can see...ALL of THIS can be used again & again for the EURO's (yup even brought the WORLD CUP down for that) & The WORLD CUP so overall GOOD VALUE for MONEY me thinks?

In TOTAL (bought over a number of years) this little lot comes to around £135.49 give or take a few pounds which i think is pretty good?

And hopefully i've provided you good folks with a few WORLD CUP IDEAS to brighten your rooms up...so A COMPLETE PANINI Stickers Album for a midway price of around £180 or this little lot?

Get on RAHEEM at 100-1 put a quid (£1) on him to do so & if he manages to win it? not out of the question & i think he'll go far closer than these odds would seem to suggest THEN it would almost pay for this little lot which has taken me over 5 years to buy.

Anyone else have ANY Cool things they've brought related to WORLD CUP's & EURO Tournaments?

You know i almost...very nearly made a bid shortly after the EURO'96 Tournament to purchase a FOOTBALLING BANNER used in the streets to decorate Manchester on the way to the stadiums...wish i had, it's a regret as i LOVED that TOURNEY, slow start from ENGLAND but by the end of it we were clearly the BEST TEAM in it (i know we didn't win it but yet again we should have)

HAVE FUN...it's what it's all about right? well kinda Wink

there has been only 1 winner of the golden boot that was not a striker. so you can see why he would be 100-1.

STRIKERS almost always hit their stride in such cometitions Grumpy with you on that one! ..AND YET...
Seriously, Sterling at 100-1 exclamation marks galor!!!! i was curious as to what he was priced up at? as ENGLAND will rely on both KANE & he to get the majority of the goals if we are to go close this time & i think we will & i think he will get a bag full of goals here (perhaps not as many as Harry? but Sterling is well capable of getting 2 goals in any game, maybe even 3)

Get on him Grumpy?

He probably won't win? but i have a feeling he could defy those odds & will get far closer than some of the so called BIG NAME STRIKERS.

Tried working it out for Sterling & Kane and there is...

The 3 GROUP Games & i am thinking FOR A CHANGE!!! we need to start well & would expect us to do so against both Tunisa & Panama...can see Sterling or Kane getting at least 1 goal each in both these games & one of them (perhaps Sterling might add to this tally against Belgium in the final group game)

So after these GROUP GAMES couldn't you see...Sterling perhaps on 3 goals? because i can.

Onto The LAST 16 Knock-Out Stage game, i understand people underestimating ENGLAND's chances (after previous more recent tournaments over the pat 20 years or so) but i look at this young side (& i really hope he takes FODEN from CITY as he CAN make a difference) and can see NO country we should be worried about...even SPAIN & BRAZIL my favourites for the competition.

Not out of the Question Sterling could grab 2 goals against any of the possibly Q-Final opponents we might face (Sterling has faced better in the Premiership on a weekly basis) taking him to 5 perhaps?

It's a bit of a FANTASY STORY...i know this but DREAMS can come TRUE & i just wanted to point out to you good folks that 100-1 from 888 is incerdibly generous to top the goal scoring table...he'll get plenty more (if used right?) than many of the so called BIG NAME STRIKERS.

Should we reach the Quarter Final as expected then i'm expecting Sterling might well have 5 goals at this point? i know 2 or 3 is more likely but he's been on FIRE this season & can see no reason why he can't LIGHT UP this WORLD CUP with his PACE, GUILE, GOALS & ASSISTS he's playing for FUN & with FREEDOM.

At this point likely to be Germany or Brazil & both would be tricky! but personally i would make us favs against the Germans & the underdog (just) against Brazil.
If he scored 1 more in such a game but we go out he could have the 6 that normally wins this
GOLDEN BOOT but i think looking at some of the TEAM GROUP STAGES 7 might be needed?

In which case KANE or STERLING will need to get us into that SEMI FINAL & with one of the maing DANGERS gone in that QF it could well be that the goals could keep coming from these two to fire us into  FINAL.

For me it's QF minimum...otherwise i wash my hands of the MALE England senior side & shall put my efforts into supporting the MUCH IMPROVED Women's Team.

Fully expecting us to FINALLY start beating some TEAMS of NOTE (the big one's like GERMANY, BRAZIL, SPAIN when we need to here & they HAVE to START BELIEVING IT)

JUST LOOK what LIVERPOOL have done...seeded before the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE started around 10th if i remember right? or thereabouts & now at least 2nd & i expect & hope them to defeat MADRID in the FINAL.

Is it such a stretch that ENGLAND one of the better teams here might not win it & in the process STERLING, KANE, ALLI, FODEN, LOFTUS-CHEEK, LALANA? HENDERSON & the likes step up to the plate with NO FEAR...we've been there, done that got the T SHIRT, we should no longer fear failure as many already EXPECT IT...but i don't...

Keep it quiet but by hook or by crook (not by crook actually...i want to win it FAIR or not at all) i can see ENGLAND winning this in RUSSIA.

Folks can feel free to lay into me...in a few months time if we don't go close Laughing but hopefully we will & you'll have had 50 cents or a dollar on STERLING winning the BOOT & although KANE of the two will be favourite i have a FUNNY FEELING this might be RAHEEM STERLING's 'Big' Tournament similar to the one's DAVID PLATT had in Italia '90 & GAZZA had at that same Tourny alomg with EURO'96.

As ya can see...the excited little kid coming out in me...

BTW i COMPLETELY agree with GAZZA...if you DON'T want to play for ENGLAND say so now & let those that want to do so take your place!
And for gods sake SHOW SOME REAL PASSION, FUN & EXCITEMENT at being there playing for your COUNTRY & representing ALL US FOLK...not the OTT Joe Hart passion mind you Smile

ENGLAND had a very good quailfying campaign & even though some? might say the friendlies meant nothing?
Tell that to both Germany & Brazi who tried as hard as they could to win at Wembley in those against England but could only muster 0-0 draws which ENGLAND should have won!
Both were favourites playing against a team looking more like an ENGLAND 'B' side (with many of the bigger? some would say better player? missing) and yet England played the better, i found that interesting.

It's a fun response...

They'll be MANY like you saying such things but if ENGLAND cannot make it out of this group then something has gone badly wrong.

BTW Not impossible just highly unlikely...5-0 England win in the first (Sterling scores 4 Laughing) & we lose the next two 1-2 (Steling scores 1) & finally we lose 2-3 in the final game (Sterling scores another) That's 6 could win the BOOT with that Wink

Hey, fair do's...if your serious about that call your right, highly unlikey & i've been setting myself up for a huge fall as i think ENGLAND will go close to winning this one & KANE, STERLING, ALLI, HENDERSON, LOFTUS-CHEEK, WALKER...hopefully FODEN (i'd take him, many won't agree but he could make a massive difference so WHY wouldn't you take a player that surely will be an ENGLAND regular in the near future?) oh and surely POPE will now be the GK? if it's JOE (HART) i might just revise my expectations.

Golden Boot?
If England go as i hope (and expect) i think KANE might win it & STERLING could & at 100-1 it must be worth a small wager.
